I am still browsing more the WWW than Gemini even though I am fully committed to the latter.

However I have this feeling that any time, not pretty soon though, there will be an explosion and it will be a major source to find reliable content... šŸ¤”

@Maria Good points. My concern is more if you don't punt your capsule into an aggregator your content is not searchable. Ā· 10 months ago

I don't think search is the answer. it's the problem that has gotten us the current state of www. imho that whole approach is wrong. just think of real world examples. you rely on recommendations and peers for good information and some entertainment. at some point you do need search, but most content I consume on Gemini are gemlogs and such. I like nightfall and antenna for this, it's specific Ā· 10 months ago

@gnuserland I've been meaning to make my search engine index gemini as well. Just haven't decided how I'm gonna slice the code just yet. Ā· 10 months ago

@nristen I think an area where Gemini has a lot of room to improve is the searching; so far content must be added manually and event though scraping a GMI file is pretty trivial the overall result is not enough mature. Ā· 10 months ago

Gemini needs more content on a wider variety of topics in order to achieve this result. It is fine for peple to make posts telling how much they dislike the WWW however until Gemini can fullfill various needs, it will never be more than toy for most people. The web provides a means for a large portion of people to earn an income and survive. Gemini can also be a tool that people use. We just have create content that is needed for this to happen. Today is impossible to distinguish if a content is on the WWW for "making money" rather than for pure passion.

You can trust mainly established website that you know they are doing everything for money.

What I would say is I'd love searching for my interest primarily on Gemini, where I know people will be more commitment to be genuine... Ā· 10 months ago

Tbh, Iā€™d say my web activity is 50/50 at this point. I almost never browse the clearnet outside of browsing Neocities webrings and Youtube videos. I feel a lot more at home on Gemini. Ā· 10 months ago

@marginalia It doesn't need to be *as big as* the Web but it would be nice if Gemini were just a little less obscure than it is now. The smallest improvement on this front could tip my scale toward Gemini significantly. Ā· 10 months ago

Does Gemini need to be big? Like the biggest problem with the big web is arguably that everyone is using it, creating an insane signal-to-noise ratio that virtually demands mass-producing vapid clickbait-content to have any chance of reaching people. In the big web, everyone is screaming for attention so loudly that nobody is getting through. Ā· 10 months ago
