03 April 2022 - Film Day

Today has been a bit of a strange day. It is still cold but sunny. At
least it is dry and there has been no weak attempts at snow. Hopefully
we are back to normal soon with temperatures rising. Although that
probably means rain too. Ah well. I was at a loss as to what to do
today. I have plenty of jobs but concious of a fairly wank work week
coming up. There will be 3 days of PI planning to cover the next 3
months of sprints. Never good! I also have a continuous improvement
event which was lumbered on me last week to run on Friday. It is about
the thrilling world of technical governance and which design review
process we are going to work to. All are pants. All are similar but
different enough to lead to arguements. So you can probably see why I
ended up with an unexpected film day.

Film 1 was The Gentlemen. It is a Guy Ritchie film which doesn't feel
like a Guy Ritchie film at first. A cannabis mogul wants to sell up
and this leads to a series of events. It stars Matthew McConaughey,
Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant and lots of other actors.
Hugh Grant was almost unrecognisable and seemed to be having fun. It
is set in the UK and features some vibrant characters. The story is
effectively narrated by one character to another in a retrospective
manner. It works well and keeps the viewer invested through twists,
turns and action. I really recommend it. It is a well told story
which entertained me at least.

Film 2 was Baby Driver. Yes, I know I am late to the game with this
one but my excuse is that I don't watch films very often. This is
directed by Edgar Wright and concerns a get away driver. The driver is
not a willing member of the heist teams but does what he needs to do
with some impressive skills. He is an odd chap who keeps listening to
music near enough all of the time. He meets someone, desires an escape
from heist life but gets dragged back in. The driver struggles with
his morality with each job. As you might expect from a Wright film,
this is wonderfully stylish with arty shots and a well told story. If
you have not seen it then go and watch it! It is fabulous and worth
watching for the soundtrack alone.

Now it is time to listen to Anonradio for Shut Up You Freak!, Dubious
Goals Committee, and The Third Ear (if I can stay up that late).
