I've always had a fondness for terminator marines. To date, my only real 40k army is a squad of Grey Knight Paladins led by a Librarian. They sell the appeal of mass space combat, for me: hulking suits of power armor wading into combat like war elephants of old. And Streum On is a studio I've always been keen on; E.Y.E is not a good game to my modern tastes, but a much younger me idolized it. So Deathwing always intrigued me, but consistent mediocre review turned me away.
Unfortunately, after having finally played it, those reviews seem to mostly hold true. The aesthetics are, for the most part, great; environments are oddly proportioned, a critical lack of an immersive HUD, but otherwise fine. But the actual gameplay is a slog. Meandering levels and wimpy weapons take away a lot of the possible enjoyment. Perhaps playing with a friend might make it more enjoyable, but ultimately I found my desire for a terminator simulator tragically unsatiated.
