Torah

4 โ€Ž[1] ื™ื”ื™ื” ืœืืจืฅ [A SABBATH OF STRICT REST] SHALL BE UNTO THE LAND [or SOIL] โ€” unto the fields and vineyards.

โ€Ž[2] ืœื ืชื–ืžืจ โ€” The word is a denominative verb from ื–ืžื•ืจื”, a branch, and denotes: to do something to the branches: it is used here because one lops off its (the vineyardโ€™s) branches. Its translation in the Targum is thus: ืœื ืชื›ืกื—, โ€œthou shall not cut offโ€, and this root has a similar meaning in the Hebrew (Isaiah 33:12) โ€œas thorns cut off (ื›ืกื•ื—ื™ื)โ€; (Psalms 80:17) โ€œit is burnt with fire, it is cut down (ื›ืกื•ื—ื”).
