I've always wanted to make my own preserves, but my excuse was "I don't have space for all the equipment" and you know what? Fuck it. Once I got my first paycheck, I'm buying heatproof jars and tongs. Who knows, I might fuck around and document my journey and create website and/or capsule.

@thatsredacted Here's a quick answer: 1) I do not stack, 2) I stopthe boiling before putting the jars in. Good luck. · 6 months ago
@mc Since you've done this so many times, I got a quick question. Is it okay to stack jars in boiling water?
I only got 4.5l pot and I'm planning to buy small 235ml jars and only 3 maybe 4 will fit inside the pot without stacking . · 6 months ago
@thatsredacted You're right. I've done it more than a hundred times and none has exploded, but I select the jars and only use those of commercial products that I'm sure were sterilized. I don't want to feel responsible for some accident of the kind that may happen in your house. · 6 months ago
@mc I have no idea if they are heatproof and I don't want hot water+exploding glass mess in my kitchen. I will reuse the ones I'll buy for sure tho. · 6 months ago
Huh, I’ve never tried it, but now I’m a bit interested, maybe I’ll try someday · 6 months ago
A good idea is to reuse empty jars of jam and other. Aslong as they have metal caps. Reuse is better than recycle. · 6 months ago
Yeah, the tongs are definitely necessary. This past summer I tried doing it with the salad tongs I had already and wound up getting boiling water all over my hands. 😛 · 6 months ago
