First of all, happy new year to everyone!
It’s been a while since my last gemlog post, huh? It may seem that I’ve forgotten all about Geminispace, but rest assured; I enjoy catching up with Antenna from time to time and seeing what everybody there is up to.
Yet, I feel like something is amiss. The community aspect of Geminispace (and the smaller web in general) is something I value a lot, and it does seem like I’m missing out! So I would very much like to interact more with all you wonderful people. I suppose that means hanging out more in tilde.chat!
The obvious solution, of course, would simply be to write more entries (and send comments to other geminauts through email, which I now realize I hadn’t even considered). That’s always such a huge commitment, though! I’ve been especially busy lately with real life, which is not something I want to have my gemlog for. And I’ve considered writing a guide or an article about a specific topic I’m interested in, but I always feel like I know too little to speak with any authority… that could be impostor syndrome kicking in.
(By the by, I’m sorry to say I had to end the nukadoko experiment. I didn’t have enough space to properly tend to it :( but I would like to get it started again as soon as the circumstances allow it!! I do have to say, I DID get to grow some fermented goodies in the end :D)
The one topic I always wish I could talk about is my own creative business… so it’s a shame that this, too, is always hard to tap into. For some time I’ve wanted to produce music, but there’s some sort of creative block that I don’t know how to get around, even as someone with musical experience. It’s a real shame! I keep telling myself I just need to invest more time in just DOING, without caring about quality, but I never find those experiments interesting or engaging enough to give them the time I figure they deserve.
And as refreshing as geminispace is, I struggle seeing it as the hub of my internet presence. It’s fantastic for when I just want to publish some words, but I’m generally a visual person. For me, a lot of the times, the visual presentation is just as important as the content itself, and gemtext doesn’t give me any choice in that regard… so I’ve been slowly chipping away at an HTML homepage. I hope to have it ready soon! But, foremost, I need actual content for it, and I hope my music can be a starting point of sorts.
A little update about my previous post; I still feel like taking a break from programming was the right choice for me. Even if I’ve lapsed once or twice (oops!), forcing myself to use existing tools instead of obsessively rolling out my own, every time, is a huge help when it comes to actually getting things done.
Well, that’s all I have to say for myself for now!! I want to stop by #gemini in tilde.chat in the following hours, so… stay cool, and see you all there!
