The goal of this issue is to share all gemini web proxy websites. I realize there are many more proxies you can download on github etc, but these are just some helpful sites for you to share your capsule or browse geminispace without having to download anything new.
Proxies are listed in no specific ranking.
Let's start with the 2 sites listed on the official Gemini Homepage:
About: This site has an "unapologetically brutalist" design. What I like about it are the many features: eg you can turn inline images on/off and view a sites certificate. Due to it's design it could be hard to read however and there are no options for adjusting the style, other than the options you can change locally in your browser.
About: This site is both a gemini and gopher proxy. Its design may be a bit easier on the eyes and the font can be adjusted. Images can be turned on/off here as well, though I like the look a bit less (all images have a width of 8em). The preformatted text is kind of a problem: it's displayed as normal text which can fuck up the ASCII art and kinda goes against the very reason people use it.
About: Another simple black on white design which has more design going on than michael mozz.us' page. The font is sans-serif, the preformatted text and links have a nice, simplistic design and the text isn't #000, which is website making 101. There are a few minor things I don't like about it, like the fact that a multiple line quote doesn't get drawn together and that there is no way to activate inline images. However something I do love about it is the fact that preformatted text gets an alt description - not many proxies make use of this.
About: At the time I'm writing this the service seems to be down so I'll have to review from memory. The color and background are neat, the headers are quite pretty and the images have a fancy border radius. A downside is the monospace font that can't be changed - it might be hard to read.
About: Another site with black on white design. The font is quite fancy and I like it, though I suspect it might be hard to read for some people. The descriptions are placed under the text which is something. There are no image thumbnails.
About: Though initially very ugly this site gives you the most options to adjust the design. It also makes use of the alt text. Something negative is that multiple line quotes are very far apart.
About: Another one with barely any css. Between this and proxy.mozz.us I recommend the latter. It's the only proxy that has problems with imperfect link formatting (=>link instead of => link)
About: This site has a neat theme but the font is default, making it Times New Roman in most desktop browsers.
About: Monospace font and neat green links for a change. Not much to say that hasn't been said.
The best way to view gemini capsules is through a gemini client.
I highly recommend Lagrange. It's available for both Desktop and mobile.
