Entry #7

Multiverse of Madness

Visual depictions of wizardry have always been a bit lacking, in my opinion. It is a conundrum, for sure: high level magic does not translate well to mediums like film. Some series come close to satisfying me, but I think it was the first Doctor Strange movie that finally met my expectations. His newest venture continues the trend, and despite a fair few contrived and uninspired fights, still managed to impress me. Something I haven't said about a superhero movie in a long time.

Perhaps it is just my current woes and sentimentality influencing me, but I even found the sappy storytelling compelling. There are more than enough multiversal adventures to make the trope feel stale, but I enjoyed that the film focuses on conflict between ideals and actions over the general concept. Strange's struggle over his complicated, unreciprocated romance obviously resonated with me; his final "I love you…" made me shed a tear, and that's a permanent mark on my dignity.
