Privacy has become depressing.

A few months ago, I switched from OxygenOS to LineageOS, since the latter is open source. However, as soon as I switched, I stopped receiving SMS messages. It was only recently, when I switched to DivestOS, that this bug was fixed.

While I was using LineageOS, whenever I wanted to, say, do a bank transfer, I had to charge my old phone, take out my SIM card, insert my SIM card into my old phone, wait until its battery levels were high enough to boot, start it up, receive the TAN code via SMS and take my SIM card out and insert it into my current phone again.

With SMS support broken, and me substituting WhatsApp with Signal a while ago, some people had no way of contacting me except calling. It happened numerous times that I met someone and they asked me why I hadn't responded to their messages.

I didn't want to switch to Signal, but it was the only instant messaging app the people around me actually used (besides WhatsApp, which we don't need to talk about). I would've much rather used Briar or XMPP, but then I would've lost even more contacts.

I deleted my Google account a while ago. The only Google service I still used was YouTube, and I just use Invidious now. Recently, my Reddit account was hacked, and instead of creating a new one, I started using Libreddit. They work fine most of the time, but every now and then, I find myself wanting to submit a post or comment under a video, and I obviously can't.

Privacy has become depressing, and in the end, the only thing we can do is weigh the pros and cons before dropping a specific service or switching to a new application. I know numerous people who have used Facebook for the longest time, and I'm glad that, in contrast to them, moving away from Facebook was incredibly easy for me.
