Watched the US mens national cricket team play the Netherlands. I like the Dutch team, always had a soft spot for them but Iāll probably always support the US team over all others (including India even though Iām Indian ā theyāre too good, too many celebrities tbh). Besides the US team is like 90% subcontinental expats or 2nd gen guys anyway. Plus some caribbean names on there. Itās a ragtag team and I love it, perfect encapsulation of an American team playing a very much non-American sport ā diverse as hell, playing for the love of it.
Anyway the US lost but it was a good watch regardless. Pity they did lose because they would have been in the World Cup (the t20 one) had they won.
For the first maybe quarter or so of the Dutch innings I was thinking maybe the US has a shot at winning but the fielding fell apart a bit. And then it became pretty obvious they wouldnāt win. Still, Iām happy to see thereās even an American team. Love cricket and I wanna watch some low key matches (aka not expensive friendlies being hosted at Yankees stadium) in person.
I havenāt been reading much since I got sick. I was in the middle of The Dispossessed by Ursula K
Le Guin and Debt: the first 5000 years by David Graeber. Gonna pick one of those up.
Also this doesnāt seem like an instagram crowd but if you do have one, I have a little book account on there @brolinreads. Same username on the storygraph.
I was trying to read 30 books this year but almost every one I want to read are like, 500+ pages so thatās definitely not happening. Anyone read J R by William Gaddis? Iām probably going to start that once I finish The Dispossessed. I like to keep it moving with fiction but with nonfiction Iāll typically dip in and out.
Those pics from Webb. Wow.
Still testing positive, not too much coughing now but I still feel a weird burning in my chest right at the end of my breaths?
Paxlovid seems to have helped a lot. Took the last dose today. Hopefully fully on the mend soon.
I donāt wanna get this again oh my god
I woke up with a golf ball sized swelling on my face. I had some toothaches the last couple of days, thought it might just go away.
Dentist canāt see me (due to covid) but after sending some pictures he thinks a tooth/filling might be been cracked from grinding my jaws due to stress and now is infected.
I mean, I do have to laugh at the absurdity of it.
Was pretty sick the past couple of days, started getting breathing issues.
Now on paxlovid the aftertaste is awful. But hopefully I donāt end up at the hospital anymore :)
I hate this.
Tested positive for covid yesterday, Iāve got some symptoms too now :)
Great :) :)
Alone with the dogs in the house for the next few days as L is off visiting her best friend. Not looking forward to having to comfort Huey in his July 4th firework terror fest.
Getting a bunch of reading done though, thatās cool I suppose.
Shaved my beard off. Watching The Seventh Seal.
Been a while. My in-laws took us to a dosa place last night. Itās so funny how a dosa restaurant in Long Island can look exactly like a roadside spot in south India. the only thing it was missing was a sweaty dude making fried egg sandwiches out front at 2am. All these cheap Indian places are the only redeeming qualities of Long Islandās suburban hellscape.
I wanted to fly this coming week to visit my parents but everything is so expensive.
Feel like all Iām doing on here is complaining so a couple of good things. L is done with her job and is off for two weeks before starting her new one! Glad she gets to relax after the last two years.
Fire Island yesterday, had a nice time at the parade. Beach was nice but very hot.
Reading Ursula K. Le Guinās The Dispossessed. Only a chapter in but good so far.
I saw this feature in the NYT about 25 New York Novelsā¦.and it didnāt include The Recognitionsā¦.come onā¦.
Just got home from the Sigur RĆ³s show. incredible as always. At the end they brought out the whole crew and band membersā families, it was really cute!
Need to start reading a novel before my brain explodes
Still reading Debt by David Graeber, into it so far.
For the first time in a long time I feel like I need to write. Have a kernel of a story inside and I want to see where it ends up.
30 rock is a true life workplace documentary everywhere i have worked is just like 30 rock.
Went to the Queens Night Market in Flushing Meadows. If you live in NYC or even in like Nassau County and you like good-to-great, cheap (everything $5-$6) food you gotta go.
long long walk today, past the farm. only operational farm in NYC. andrew yang campaigned there for some reason. honestly respected him for that, no one gives a shit about our corner of queens lol
Weāve been renovating a bathroom in the house and the new plumbing just caused a leak lol. lmao.
hope that doesnāt mean we get more of the same crap that made us need the reno in the first place (bath water flowing down into the kitchen cabinets through the wall š¬)
iām not convinced that homeownership is worth it.
Feeling less than great today, took a covid test, negative. Feels like just waiting for a shoe to drop, constantly. Might just be a little overworked and screenād out.
I will probably start posting book reviews on here too.
Testing testing testing
my wife is playing pokƩmon go, the dogs are bone tired, and i need a shower
