2014 Detroit Auto Show

28 February 2014

It's been a while since I've written anything here and I have no excuse for it. So I will play catch-up and post a little about my trip to the Detroit Auto Show at the end of January.

Since I live near Detroit, it's not too far of a drive and decided to go this year along with some friends. It's been about ten years since I last went, and I recall it being very warm inside Cobo Hall. My friends brought their baby with them and a stroller. It was very cold and windy outside that day so we really had to bundle up. I don't like checking my coat inside, so traditionally I would carry it or endure the added heat while I walked around. This time, however, we put our coats on the the bottom of the stroller and that worked out well. Just walking around in jeans and a t-shirt was still very warm. With all the people and all the spot lights shining on the cars, it makes it warm enough in there to sweat.

I attended on the second-to-last day of the event and there was no shortage of visitors either. There were lots of nice cars there and we visited nearly every manufacturer there. While the whole place was crowded, the most crowded display was the Chevrolet Corvette area where one nearly had to push their way in and around the cars. The next most crowded area was probably the entire Ford Motor Co area and then followed by the Cadillac section.

I was disappointed in that I didn't see any of the exotics there like Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini and the like. Though Bentley was there and one of the cars as on display had a sticker price of over $385,000! I considered buying two of them!

Downstairs at the Cobo Hall there were some neat looking mod cars and other odd stuff. Plus Harley Davidson was there and had several very nice bikes on display.

All in all, we had a good time and I plan on returning sometime in the next decade again! Seriously, once every several years is plenty for me to consume.
