This week is my first week doing 4 day weeks at work. so far it's been a lovely morning with the bonus being that my kids are at my parents having a sleepover. This is actually the first day my wife and I have had together without kids for quite some time! In fact I don't really remember when the last time this happened was, some time around Christmas 2019 I think, or perhaps even earlier.
Anyway, I haven't actually been all that productive with the day off. Catching up on James Hoffman youtube bits, writing this gemlog, having a vague attempt at tidying the kitchen. I will probably solder up another 68keys PCB, but it is nice to just have a day without any priorities or things that _need_ to be done.
I do realise that I'm in quite a priviliged position to be able to do this in the current worldwide semi-apocalypse. I'm lucky that my I'm paid absurdly for my skills and that I have the energy to move to four nine hour days so that my income isn't affected a great amount.
In the end the day off is a mental health break until I get my next contract sorted, which will be based on the four nine hour days. But ultimately is so I have a day a week to organise all the necessary yak shaving required to move us to the best part of Australia at the end of 2021. We have bought 5 acres of bush on a 'gentle slope' outside Hobart in Tasmania, my favourite place that I've visisted. The process appears quite terrifying at the moment. So many parts have to be put into place over the next 18 months. But I think I can get there.
my main concern is finding employment out of Hobart. It's not known for its high employment and salaries, that's for sure. I hope over the next year to have figured out a bit more about remote work, and again, this extra day will hopefully give me some space to explore the options.
Anyway, that's enough rambling for today I think. I hope anyone reading this is doing well :)
