Weekly Update: Tinkering with electronics

This is my second weekly check-in. Don't have as much to say as last time so I'll keep it short.

Gaming

I just finished playing Inscryption. I'm proud to say I solved all the puzzles without looking anything up (at least the ones I found). It was over a bit more quickly than I had hoped, but I enjoyed it a lot. I might have to replay it with guides to find all the content I missed. And there is also an endless mode in the works, looking forward to its completion.

What to play next? Let me know if you have a suggestion! At the moment I'm thinking of playing the Fatal Frame series on a Playstation 2 emulator.

Physics

If you follow me on the fediverse you might have seen that I am working on a crude DIY quantum random number generator, just for fun. I found schematics online [1] and blindly implemented them, but it doesn't work. There seem to be many problems with the design, I don't know if the authors actually built their circuit and checked it. I modified it so that there is at least in theory a way it could work (or a a way that I can understand) but the electronic noise seems to drown out the quantum randomness. Next stage will be to do more thorough research and then acquire better components. Even if this thing fails, it was fun to learn how to use an Arduino and build circuits (I'm not an experimentalist usuallly) and maybe I'll build other stuff with the parts I got for this.

That side project is doing a good job of distracting me from my actual work. I should be writing my bachelor's thesis, but when I sit down to write I feel like I have no idea what to do... I have most of the knowledge I need, but explaining it is hard! I hope next week I can report significant progress on this front.
