Disclaimer!

I have no affiliation with these companies, take no responsibility for
accuracy of the information, etc., blah blah blah. Nor is the list
inclusive. I am just passing on hard to find information I have
gathered over the years hoping others will find it useful, and hoping
to reduce newsgroup traffic with this sort of FAQ. Please let me know
if anything is in error.

For more and similar info, check the adds in the back of any guitar
magazine. That is where these places advertize.

Starr Switch is still around. While they have branched out with their
own MIDI controller instruments, they still offer their add-on electronics
for guitars. Michael Hedges' Klein electric harp-guitar has Starr Switch
electronics installed; take a close look to see what the switches look
like. They will have Stanley Jordan at their booth in the upcoming
NAMM show demoing their MIDI controllers.

Tom,

Try TKL. They make cases for Blue Lion, McSpadden, and Bear Meadow (and possibly
other dulcimer makers), and other instruments. Reach them at

Yeah, Gretsch plays a strange game. You see they're really not in the
aftermarket for pick ups. I have sent them a letter asking if they sell
pickups. They said that they don't, but to contact D&F in Cincinnati to get
them. So D&F buys new pickups from Gretsch as "replacement" parts but
obviously, will sell to anyone. I got Gretsch's address out of a Guitar
Player magazine ad. D&F Products, INc. is at 6735 Hidden Hills Dr.
Cincinnati OH 45230 (513)232-4972. Man in charge is Duke Kramer. They sell
all sort of Gretsch parts, including DeArmond and HiLoTron pickups.

I don't know if that counts as aftermarket, but for anyone interested in the
Gretsch sound, who, like me, doesn't have an extra $3G, the pickups are a
great option. And no, I am not affiliated with either D&F or Gretsch, just
a guy who wants to spread the word on a good deal.

Again, take care, and keep up the good work on the server!

Mel

Another source of alnico magnets is Edmund Scientific Co. in New Jersey.
Telephone 609-573-6260. Or try the yellow pages under Magnets. I did this
a while ago and had a bunch of catalogues sent to me. Of course you have
to wade through the pages and pages of ceramic magnets to get to the good
stuff.
