My goal for creating this site is mostly just to test out the gemini protocol, but I plan to write at least a few posts. If I like this protocol, than I might stick with it instead of the system that I had before for my site.
Gemini is a protocol that was created in 2019 as an alternative, stripped back version of the commonly used world wide web. Whereas HTTP and HTTPS allow for large scale applications and scripts to be sent across the net, Gemini is restricted primarily to plain text. The main benefits of this are that the focus of communication can be on the content of the text rather than the spyware and hyper-personalized advertising that's common all over the world wide web. Users can choose from a variety of clients that let them read in the way that they want instead of having to really on the design choices of a giant company like Facebook or Google.
This site is called a "capsule". It's essentially a directory of different text files that link together and can be read by a Gemini client.
