Yesterday's words:

ARUM ATRIUM AURA IMPRIMATUR IRRUPT MURMUR MUTT PUMA PUMP PUPA PUPARIA PUPARIUM PUPU PURI PURPURA PURR PUTT RUMP TAUT TITTUP TRAUMA TRAUMATA TRITIUM TRUMP TUATARA TUTU UMAMI

Pangrams: IMPRIMATUR (n) sanction, approval, or a mark of approval; a license to publish under official censorship (esp. Roman Catholic episcopal authority)

IRRUPT: (v) rush in forcibly or violently; undergo an upsurge of population; erupt

PUPARIUM (plural PUPARIA): (n) a rigid outer shell formed from larval skins covering some pupae

TITTUP: (n) lively, gay or restless behavior; (v) to move in a lively, exaggerated or affected mandder

TRAUMATA: (n) plural of 'trauma'

TRITIUM: (n) a radioactive isotope of hydrogen with one proton and two neutrons (3x mass of H)

TRUMP: (n) A despicable former president; lowest of the low

TUATARA: (n) A New Zealand reptile, the only surviving rhynchocephalean

UMAMI: (n) a taste sensation produced by several amino acids, compared to flavor of cheese, cooked meat, mushrooms, so, and ripe tomatoes; (adj) being, inducing, or marked by one of five basic taste sensations as per above.

Why is umami so hard to describe? I have yet to understand exactly what it is, and it sounds like a bit of bullshit. Savory? I mean, come on. Bitter, salty, sour, sweet -- all of these make clear sense to me. Well, bitter and sour perhaps have an overlap; if you don't believe me try Indian bitter gourd pickles. Salty and sweet are obvious. Is umami, like everything else? Yikes. Humans.

Another day.
