About six months ago I began offering a chess service on my capsule. Visitors could invite others to play a match in correspondence fashion similar to postal games. While I've received little direct feedback about the service, I've been watching how players interact with it and with each other.
In the process, I've discovered that the service requires some major improvements. Some of those improvements involve changing what data about each match is stored and how. This means I need to rewrite the service backend, and the rewrite will not be compatible with current game data. New games that could be started in the meantime will not be able to be ported either. The current backend is also not scalable nor flexible, and if the service is to grow, I need to address those problems.
As of today, I will be temporarily closing the chess service while I work on a rewrite. I currently aim to have the service available again by 2022-07-01.
