Mindfulness
Back
Here are some insights I have about mindfulness.
- You need sessions to be at least 20 minutes, because something starts happening after about 10 minutes.
- I find it quiets the brain. I tend to think about thoughts as waves in a pond that settle down and the water become transparent. Quieting the brain could be the waning of electric activity and might be measurable.
- When closing the eyes for a period of time (say more than 10 minutes), you tend to lose orientation. This sensory deprivation is very relaxing and trance inducing.
- You see thoughts come and then go by themselves, realizing you don't have to act on them. It makes it obvious that most thoughts are not important; they could be whims, illusions about things that didn't happen in the past or future and acting on them is a waste of time and turning you away from being here and now. This is because these thoughts disappear and don't come back so they could not have been important to begin with. If there are important ideas in your subconscious, they will bubble up again and again.
