I've been reminded that "Wirth's Law" may be a closer match for what I'm thinking of here, but I do see a similarity between it and Jevons' paradox. · 4 months ago

@gnuserland Unless there is a conscious effort to improve energy efficiency, or if Jevons' paradox turns out to break down here for some unforeseen reason, of course. I'd be happy for that to be the case. · 4 months ago

@gnuserland Yes, assuming that cycles per user remain the same. If things play out on the server as they did on the desktop, though, you'll see less-efficient programming practices (usually excused with "programmer time is more valuable than computer time") eventually erode the efficiency gains. · 4 months ago

@gnuserland Right, so the energy efficiency isn't actually resulting in less energy consumed, but rather enabling greater consumption of computing power. That's in line with Jevons' paradox for sure. · 4 months ago

Probably I haven't really got what you stated, but for instance, in the server space ARM is taking over not only in performance, and consuming, but also in space.

In the same space you may fit more servers consuming the same amount of energy while offering more computational power.
