Cork charity that counselled thousands through difficult times marks 40 years of service

They have been caring for the mental health and well-being of Leesiders since the early '80s - now Cork Counselling Services are marking 40 years as a vital charity in Cork.

Based on Fr Matthew Street, the service hasspent 4 decades promoting a community-based model for dealing with mental health issues while encouraging patients to continue living healthy lives.

Along with being a counselling service, since 2019, the organisation have been twinned with Coventry University to provide a full B.Sc. Programme to train counsellors professionally. They have since seen 23 graduates become qualified while reinvesting the profits back into their services.

The service currently sees 400 clients a year and even operated throughout the pandemic while following government guidelines.

Head of Business at the service, Hugh Morley explains his happiness to reach 40 years in business.

"The organisation is looking forward to marking the anniversary with its participation in public events in both July and August."

Having recently launched its 2024 strategic plan, they hope to become Ireland’s first applied Centre of Excellence combining counselling practice, training and research. They will build their brand, by using online modes of communication while continuing to expand their positive impact on mental health in the community.
