The CEO of the Sexual Violence Centre in Cork city will be given the 'Freedom of the City' award for her determined work for all affected by abuse.
This rare honour is given to people who have performed great work for public service in Cork city.
And the City Council has now decided to honour the woman who has given 40 years of her life to helping the victims of terrible abuse.
The sexual violence centre was the first ever place in Cork to introduce counselling and support to people of all gender and ages who have experienced sexual violence or sexual abuse as a child.
Speaking to CorkBeo, Mary Crilly said that the response across the city has been great.
"I am honoured and privileged to receive this award,"
"It was not something I ever thought I would get. The city acknowledging this is really important - especially when it comes to sexual violence."
She is now the CEO of the Sexual Violence Centre Cork and works alongside survivors of sexual assault in the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU), based in South Infirmary.
The ceremony will take place at City Hall on June 9 at 2pm where elected members of the Council will celebrate Ms Crilly's work in "recognition of her unstinting support and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence over four decades to the people of Cork."
