Family of Munster man missing since November are appealing for any information that could bring him home

3 Jun

Six months after their son and brother 'just disappeared' from their lives - the family of missing Waterford man Brian Kinsella say they are desperate for any news about him.

The 30-year-old has been missing from his home since November 17th, 2021. He was last seen on CCTV near Grattan Quay in the town at 10.10 am that morning.

All that his family know is that Brian left the home he shared with his parents at Gracevieu Heights in Waterford at 9am to go to a phone shop to get a new mobile phone.

His own was not working properly and Brian said he would get a replacement and return home before midday as he was due to start his afternoon shift at Musgraves Cash and Carry.

But Brian never made it home - and failed to turn up for work.

There have been extensive searches - including sweeps of the quays and the water by Waterford Marine Search and Rescue - but no trace of Brian has ever been found.

Multiple agencies have been involved, including the Garda Helicopter, Garda Water Unit, the Coast Guard, Rescue 117, Marine Search & Rescue, River Rescue, Civil Defence, Mallow Search & Rescue, as well as local volunteers, family and friends. However, to date, there has been no sighting of Brian.

Brian is described as being 5’10’’, of slim build, with brown eyes, short brown hair and some facial hair. When last seen, he was wearing a light blue rain jacket, black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with white stripes, black runners with white soles, a black baseball cap and prescription glasses.

Speaking to The Star, Brian’s heartbroken sister Geraldine explained that there “was nothing usual” going on with Brian nor anything unusual about the day.

“He didn’t show up for work,” said Geraldine.

“He never returned home. He lived with our parents Nuala and Eugene,” said Geraldine.

“It’s completely out of character and we just want him home. We are hoping someone knows something.”

“We have searched the town and the river and everywhere,” she said, adding that Brian was reported missing to gardai that evening at 7pm.

“Waterford Search and Rescue were out looking for him without delay and continue to look for him. But it seems he has completely vanished,” she said.

Geraldine said Brian’s Christmas presents and birthday presents - he turned 30 on March 18 - four months after he disappeared - remain unopened in his bedroom.

“We are all heartbroken, we are at our wits end and we are all going throught torture and a nightmare every day,” she said.

Geraldine said posters of Brian are everywhere in Waterford and even up until recently people have been getting in touch with messages saying they believe they have spotted Brian. But unfortunately, after gardai have checked up on the alleged sighting Brian has still not been found.

“I still text and call his mobile phone - but it’s always switched off,” said Geraldine.

Brian is the only brother of Jennifer, Geraldine and Rebecca and Geraldine said not only are they all heartbroken but “Brian’s circle of friends are also heartbroken over him.”

“Brian is loved and missed by all. We will keep appealing for Brian through all platforms we can think of, until Brian is found,” said Geraldine.

“We are staying hopeful and praying for a positive outcome that he's out there and that he comes home and sees how everyone is looking for him and how much everyone cares about him. We just want him back."
