Food, music, festivals - 9 Great things to do in Cork this Bank Holiday weekend

2 Jun

It's the June Bank Holiday weekend - and Cork's got the lot as we enjoy that sweet extra day of freedom.

From the Harbour festival to the marathon and a big Street food fest with live music in the city centre, there's loads to do - even if the weather doesn't look great.

Cork Harbour Festival

Kicking off the weekend, it's the Cork Harbour Festival with the spectacular Ocean to City Race on Saturday. There's loads of colour and loads to do across the weekend - bring the young ones down to learn how to sail, make a model boat, scuba dive, sing a sea shanty, create Lego art and much more!

All events are free and open to all, and there will be food and drink vendors across the Harbour.

You could also stop by the Marina Market, and try some of Cork city's favourite local vendors, as you walk down the pier.

Cork City Marathon

Why not go support our, 12,000 marathon runners this Sunday at the start line on Patrick's Street at 8.30 am?

And cheer on for them at the finish line as they try to win that 1,000 euro prize

Ocean Escapes

Want to see the picturesque views of Cork Harbour? Ocean Escapes are doing their incredibly popular public sailings from Cobh and Crosshaven.

There are limited spaces, so make sure you grab your seat for only 30 euros, and make it a weekend to remember.

A Day trip to Kinsale

Want to feel that salty sea air in your hair and take in some breathtaking sea views as you go away for a romantic getaway?

Or even take your family out to make sandcastles and have a picnic?

Kinsale is the perfect place to be for an enjoyable day by the sea.

With tons of places to eat, to view and relax, Kinsale might just be it this weekend.

Gigs

You might be in the mood for dancing or even listen to a few bands rock their hearts out this weekend - well there are a few gigs in store in Cork.

Incredible Singer/Songwriter Aoife O’Donovan will be performing Live At St Lukes this Saturday.

Aoife O’Donovan is a star in the bluegrass, folk, Americana, roots genre - she won a Grammy Award in 2020 with her band ‘I’m With Her’.

Tickets are priced at 25 euros with doors opening at 7.30pm.

A dedicated Tribute Festival will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday, in Cyprus Avenue. Musicians shall be covering some of your favourite throwback bands like U2, Bon Jovi, The Doors, R.E.M and many more.

Tickets are priced at 40 euros for the weekend and 25 for day tickets.

Live at the Marquee continues on this weekend, with Riverdance on from Friday to Sunday, and then The National on Monday.

Tickets are still available, and start at 40 euros.

Bandon Music Festival

Maybe you want to get away from the city this weekend, but still have that same buzz of the city - this West Cork Festival might just be it.

The Bandon Music festival is back, and on Saturday and Sunday, with doors opening at half 6.

Tickets are priced at 35 euros for a Weekend pass - 25 for Saturday, and 15 for Sunday.

Chill Events

Maybe you would just rather go on a hike, or go for drinks - these laid-back chill events could just be what you are looking for this weekend.

Harleystreat

Harleystreat will be hosting a fabulous summer cookout for post-marathon celebrations on Sunday. Just a 3 minute walk from the finish just off McCurtain Street, there will be live entertainment and a free cocktail for the first 50 marathoners who show their medal.

The vendors will also be serving up a Latin style BBQ, with cocktails, drinks and much more.

Bantry Walking Festival

And finally for those that enjoy going on walks or hikes, the Bantry Walking Festival is back, with 3 spot-on locations for hikers and adventurous people.

People are advised to bring their hiking boots and rain gear as they will be treking around for almost 5 hours. Difficulty is also mentioned to be moderate to the highest level of fitness.

The festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, at Gougane Barra, Sheeps Head Peninsula, and Whiddy Walks all across West Cork.

Tickets are priced at 20 euros for the Whiddy Walk, and 35 euros for the Sheep head Walk

I mean, you could try these 9 different things this weekend - but you could also just go to the beer garden with the lads and just have a pint.
