Instead of meeting up, people just text each other. Weaker links replace former strong links, thus worsening relationships. Ask yourself how many real friends you have on social media. How many times have you met during the last year?
It is one form of addiction. Most of the time SoMe isn’t efficient usage of time. If a random comment is important, why aren’t people calling each other or meet up? If a comment is not important, that doesn’t require constant feed browsing. FOMO (Fear of missing out) is harmful phenomenon and just one angle of this.
Some people feel they are required to be ready to answer comments all the time. SoMe was supposed to be free and fun activity, not a duty without pay.
Other people's fake lifestyle photos create depression and anxiety. “My life is so boring, but other people just have fun and that's so unfair." Social media is essentially based on fake imaginary worlds, because no one is willing to admit they have boring (read: normal) life.
All SoMe pages are in same format. Blank white page with a different logo. (Use Gemini instead.)
Self-evident.
People go out together, but stare at their smart phones instead of each other, thus corrupting healthy interactions.
Social media giants use algorithms to hide “negative” news and promote “better” news. Moderation teams can hide anything they want. People see things someone else have allowed them to see.
Risk of stalking, fraud, cyberbullying, etc.
