# Twelve Days of Christmas [tags: cancer, kids] [date: 2014-12-13] Got a knock on the door this evening. No one there, but a gift. Apparently this is the first day of the twelve days of christmas. My wife and I don't know what to think or do. We love these people. We appreciate them. But chocolate and gift cards ... and what might come tomorrow? I hope nothing, really. We are private people, and we have a hard time accepting gifts. A year or so ago, a father in our neighborhood was killed in an early-morning bike accident. He had kids. Now _that_ is tragic. Our situation is difficult, but not tragic. Ours is slow-motion. Our problems are the day-to-day emotional ones. Money, gifts, and prayers won't fix it. Thoughts are appreciated. But saying so (and making it heard) is difficult. Thank you, all, and we love you. But you don't have to.
