TANDY CORPORATION ANNOUNCES THE TANDY 1000 SX COMPUTER
FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Tandy Corporation today announced the Tandy (r) 1000 SX
computer, a PC-compatible business computer priced at $1,199, that runs 50
percent faster than the PC. The Intel 8088 microprocessor-based system runs
most MS-DOS software at 7.16 MHz, and is software switchable to 4.77 MHz. The
Tandy 1000 SX computer features two disk drives, more memory, and more
expansion slots than the original Tandy 1000 computer.
"Business and serious home users tell us they want a dependable, low-cost
computer that runs the software they already own but at a higher speed. Greater
memory and expansion capabilities are also in high demand by our business
users," said John V. Roach, chairman, CEO and president of Tandy Corporation.
"The Tandy 1000 SX computer meets these needs and is the logical successor to
the popular Tandy 1000 -- the best-selling PC-compatible in the U.S. retail
sales," he said.
The Tandy 1000 SX computer features 384K RAM expandable to 640K RAM on the main
board, two built-in 5-1/4 inch, 360K floppy disk drives and five 10-inch, PC-
compatible card slots. It also supports the ViaNet (tm), Network 4 and PC Net
(r) networks.
Every Tandy 1000 SX computer comes with DeskMate (r) II software, an updated
version of Tandy's popular six-in-one applications, electronic filing,
calendar/alarm, telecommunications, and electronic mail functions.
A new task-switching feature permits the user to exit from DeskMate II, enter
an applications program, then return to DeskMate II, with just a few
keystrokes. DeskMate II is compatible with ViaNet, so the computer is software-
ready for use in a local area network. Microsoft's MS-DOS 3.2 operating system
with GW-BASIC (r) also is included with every Tandy 1000 SX computer.
The Tandy 1000 SX computer (cat. no. 25-1051) is available now at more than
7,000 Radio Shack (r) Stores, Radio Shack Computer Centers, and participating
