Well, what do you know, it's been a month since establishing this site. That's pretty cool! I like looking back at the progress because a load of things happened. I learnt a bunch about gemini as a whole and wrote this little capsule with a few recipes and guides and my music opinions. But the most valuable thing I got from it is the realisation how much nicer the internet is when it's slowed down and virtually without distractions. Reading articles here on Amfora (the gemini client of choice,) I feel tendencies to skip and switch and do a bunch of nonsense to distract myself because my mind was tailored for it by the admittely excessive use of the web. I know there's a term for what gemini tries to do, having me sit my ass down and read uninterrupted paragraphs of nothing but text. Just letters, numbers and occassional symbol, that's your lot. And I see myself struggle with that. To quote Tears for Fears' Mad World - I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad. You surely even notice that my thoughts are sort of all over the place.
I'm planning on completely rewriting the introductory section for newcommers, have more smaller sites describing each part of the process, instead of one big pile. Could help orientation and people struggling with attention span (like me) would appreciate it too. It would be nice making a script to generate the index site from present file tree but I'm no good at coding, so that'll stay on the todo list for a good while. Man, I'd love to be able to scrounge some sed scripts once in a while.
Tilde is amazing. My mind is kinda blown that this is a thing and how cool the thing is. Very, that's how much. What is tilde? I'll write a bit about that in a future blog. Just like I'll write about what is gemini. Why? Isn't everybody reading these very words on gemini already? No. Because my website is gemini portal. I have no interest keeping up a gemini site AND a website. It's not happening. Especially since gemini is the cool one.
And vim.tiny doesn't seem to have a spell-check so I'll have to get myself a propper vim to write these things with. Non-native's errors may be charming but also kinda embarassing. Especially when it's things that are easy to avoid.
There will be more frugal things like howto make inverted sugar / golden syrup at home, make simple cheese.. stuff like that. Stuff I do and find interesting to write about. Who knows, somebody could read it one day and learn something!
Anyway, it's been a fun month. Learning about all that stuff, plus lbry. May the next month be as interesting, or more.
