The Australian Labor Party, led by Anthony Albanese, wins the most seats in the Australian federal election.

The 2022 Australian federal election was held on 21 May 2022 to elect members of the 47th Parliament of Australia. The incumbent Liberal/National coalition government led by Prime Minister Scott Morrison sought to win a fourth consecutive term in office but was defeated by the opposition, the Labor Party led by Anthony Albanese. The Greens, United Australia Party, One Nation, other minor parties, and independents also contested the election. Up for election were all 151 seats in the lower house, the House of Representatives, and 40 of the 76 seats in the upper house, the Senate.

An Indian court sentences Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik to life in prison.

Yasin Malik (born 3 April 1966) is a Kashmiri separatist leader and former militant who advocates the separation of Kashmir from both India and Pakistan. He is the Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, which originally spearheaded armed militancy in the Kashmir Valley. Malik renounced violence in 1994 and adopted peaceful methods to come to a settlement of the Kashmir conflict. In May 2022, Malik pleaded guilty to charges of criminal conspiracy and waging war against the state, and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

As of 27 May 2022, the pandemic had caused more than 528 million cases and 6.28 million confirmed deaths, making it one of the deadliest in history.
