About

I'm a follower of Jesus who seeks to learn about the surrounding world. Biased and bigoted like everyone else, I know that I can't objectively understand anything. My mind has many limitations. Remembering this with humility can be difficult.

Interests

My interests are much broader than I can handle, so I try to stick with a few that I can actually master.

Writing is my favorite pastime. It allows me to put thoughts into words and work them outside of my head. Keeping everything in one's mind gets claustrophobic. I write several journals, for daily events, for random thoughts, and for stories that dance into my dreams.

I also enjoy writing fiction. I have been telling stories since I was young, writing them down for future me to enjoy. I've done NaNoWriMo several years, but never completed the full 50,000 words in a month.

Similarly, I enjoy reading. I read everything from political theory and philosophy to science fiction and fantasy. I am fascinated by anything provoking contemplation rather than providing mere entertainment. Chasing mindless entertainment is extremely unfulfilling.

Ever since I got my own personal computer when I was 11, I've been programming in one form or another. It started with web design with HTML and CSS, and later branched into Python, JavaScript, and many others. Now I'm fairly proficient in Python, C, and Go, while having a working knowledge of Rust, Zig, and several others. I've also been trying to learn Haskell, but it's not exactly the easiest language to learn.

Values

Other people are more important than profit. More important than personal well-being. More important than our visions and desires. Jesus came to serve. That is what we must do as well. We must not live for our own wants, but for the building up of others.

This means everything I do should be for others. Helping others should not be something done in spare time, but in everything I do.

It also means I should not do anything to harm others. This includes stealing from them, refusing to help them, and hoarding things that would improve their lives.

All the software I write is for others. It is not made to harm them for my own benefit, but to serve them. I refuse to put others in bondage with my software, or to let others do the same with it. Jesus didn't come to enslave, but to bring from sin and oppression. If we have been freed from so much, why should we work to control others?
