There are 44 patients on trolleys at Cork University Hospital today - with only University Hospital Limerick coming close to the numbers of sick people being cared for in hallways or emergency spaces.
The Mercy has 24 patients on trolleys - the worst affected hospital in the Dublin region is St Vincent's with 14 patients waiting on a ward bed.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation's Trolley Watch system says that across the country, 338 admitted patients are waiting for beds this morning.
That includes 260 patients waiting in emergency departments while 78 are in wards elsewhere in hospitals.
With 44 on trolleys at CUH alone, the Emergency Department at Cork's main hospital continues to be under severe pressure.
Hospital management have once againt this week urged the public to "only attend the Emergency Department if absolutely necessary, as it manages a surge in emergency presentations to the hospital."
"Due to this increased level of activity and subsequent admissions, it is regrettable that some patients may experience a delay in the ED. All emergency and time-critical care for the sickest patients is being prioritised." said a spokesperson.
Visiting restrictions also remain in place in CUH, except for visiting on compassionate grounds, as the hospital continues to manage high volumes of patients, including patients who are positive for Covid-19.
The visiting restrictions also apply to patients attending the Emergency Department.
"Management at CUH would like to remind the general public that they should explore all other options available to them prior to attending the Emergency Department including:
"Patient care is paramount in CUH and this situation is being treated as a priority by Hospital Management who have taken steps to address this issue."
"Hospital Management wishes to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all staff during this very busy time."
