Ed Sheeran donates concert tickets to Ukrainian refugees living in Cork

29 Apr

Ed Sheeran has donated tickets for tonight's big show at the Pairc in Cork city to all of the Ukrainian refugees living in a converted convent in North Cork.

The Convent Sanctuary, which has become a place of refuge in Buttevant for those fleeing the Russian invasion, thanked Ed for this kind gesture on social media.

"We would like to express our most sincere thanks to Ed Sheeran for donating tickets for his Cork show this Friday to all our residents," a spokesperson said.

"It’s a truly amazing gesture to everyone here, and again thank you Ed. Means the world," they added.

Women and children stood outside of the convent can be seen waving their tickets in the air in a snap shared by the team at the convent.

Locals in Buttevant helped to transform the convent for the arrival of refugees there, making it a safe and welcoming place for them to arrive after their traumatic experiences of having to flee.

It was lying empty four years and now it is the home to a community of more than fifty refugees, who are getting used to life here and getting involved in the local community.

It seems that everyone is delighted to be headed down to Ed's show tonight, which is the first big gig in Cork in years.
