The saying goes that if you have a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. I am definitely guilty of this way of thinking. Once I familiarize myself with a tool, especially when using Linux, I tend to use that one tool to try to perform all my tasks--even if the tool is poorly suited for some of those tasks. I have recently fallen into this trap with Bash, using scripts to do all sorts of things Bash was not designed for, up to and including implementing my own JSON parser in the language.

A future project is to learn how to use FlightAware's official API. I haven't used APIs before in any of my home projects.
