random talking about gemini

gemini is cool. i've said it everywhere now. it's cool. i like it. more people should use gemini. there are a few awkward things that i've discovered, not really about the protocol per se, but about how it's used.

generally, i think it's neato that people are starting to migrate/mirror their blogs on gemini! i've just seen some super bad formatting / massive unsorted dumps and that's sort of sad. at least they're not messy *and* massive, like most websites!

i'm still having a bit of a hard time discovering new things in gemini. a lot of pages are tiny with no content on them, and there's not enough content in geminispace overall for the search engines to be particularly helpful in just, well, fining cool caps!

i'll probably post some sort of "caproll" on my main page. yeah, actually that's a neato burrito idea! i might have very short one-line descriptions of them, as well.

and maybe other people can start doing this, so that instead of needing a service at all for content discovery, we could just check out a friend's capsule and see who they have in their caproll! alright okay it's not a profound idea, but that doesn't mean it's not still a good idea!

i also don't like people who complain about the lack of bloat in geminispace. i'm not a techbro by any means, so i don't wanna say "bloat bad. cringe!"or anything, but keep in mind that it's much easier to *add* stuff to a spec than it is to *remove* stuff from a spec! the fact that the gemini guys aren't jumping to every single gosh darn proposal is because that's exactly what berners-lee did, and look where *that* ended up!

people want images, and comments, and extra metadata, and even css in geminispace, ugh, ouch! gemini isn't radical and extreme by not adding this stuff to the official spec; it's sanity! something we're really not used to...
