on fashion

i'm going to start this log of with something not so computery: clothes! clothes are cool because you're dealing with colour, and shapes, and, maybe most interestingly, human history.

colour

which colour goes with which colour? how much contrast do you want between your top & bottom? what kind of pattern do you want to do? black/white/black/white, or pink/white with a bit of a summery blue accent?

colour is weird, is what i mean. it's like music: i don't understand it. the only quote i remember from colour theory is "there is no blue without yellow" by van goph. i may even be remembering that wrong. did he say yellow or orange? either way, i took it to heart. i mean for real, yellow shoes with blue socks, or a yellow skater skirt with a blue tshirt. it's so... "lemony"? like summer. i usually stay away from bright, popping colours, cause i don't really want to be noticed, but blue and yellow patterns are just... the chef's kiss of colours!

black is popular, and for good reason: it can be paired *easily*! black leggings, particularly stand out for this. i have pink, green, blue, and gray leggings. it is *so gosh darn hard* to pair coloured/patterned leggings with anything! black leggings go with *everything*!

shapes

flowy stuff that's a bit slimmer at the waist and flares out at the hips. stuff that has a noticeable "swoosh" to it. that's the good stuff. do i have anything else to say? no. swoosh. swoosh is the meaning of life. swoosh.

history

what we wear and what we think looks cool is inspired by our history and our culture. anything that we *used* to wear out of necessity is now, usually in civilian culture, a style that's considered to have a cool aesthetic to it. i am not a historian, so i have 0 examples, but i believe it.

before i burn out, can i just say buying lots of clothes is a dumb thing to do? it's dumb. buy *some* cute clothes, and wear them. and yes, i spent way too much money on clothes, but it's still dumb.
