I played a game recently. It was the best game I've ever played. I believe it changed my life. Ever since then, I've hung around the community on Reddit and Twitter, though mostly as an "observer", if you will.
Of course, there was a time between me hearing about it for the first time and actually playing it. During that time, I got a first look at the characters. I thought they were cute, so I made a mistake. I went on Rule 34. You know the rest.
I say "mistake" because during my playthrough, I formed a close relationship with these characters. In my perception, they went from horny nobodies to real friends. I was shocked at what I had done.
I developed an aversion to anything mildly suggestive involving them. I blocked countless Twitter users (via a script scraping Rule 34 and using the Twitter API, so I wouldn't have to look at it again). Some images are still burnt into my eyes.
Recently, there's been a bit of drama on Reddit. From what I've heard, posts regarding ships and headcanons increased, another post against these kinds of submissions got popular, and everything went form there.
I don't have anything against ships. They don't hurt anyone. But the moment they land on my screen, I really can't see myself on that side of the argument anymore. I wish things could've gone differently, but alas, stale regrets are a waste of time. Writing this down may help me move on.
