On "Economic Woes and FOSS"

The original article focuses on a lot of topics. "rising unemployment, stagnant wages, runaway inflation and significant shortages in all kinds of goods" is a good summary of the economic conditions in the US and other "advanced" economies for decades.

The consumerist push for new devices and "features" is part and parcel of the Corporate need to "create demand" by hyping innovations. The fact that most of the "innovations" of the past 20 years are merely hyper-refinement of technology available 30 years ago is lost in the PR sales pitches.

Written on a 10 year old computer that is "slower" but plenty responsive still.

The neo-liberal economics of this era are following a path predicted a very long time ago. Industrialization has now been replaced by financialization which an even more extractive process. The premise is correct, the corporatized and consolidated (monopolized/cartelized) economy does not care about providing value, just extracting "wealth".
