Stop using gemini

Okay, so the title is somewhat misleading. A few times now I've come across people asking 'will gemini take over the web?' No! That's the short answer

the long answer is, no, it's not meant to take over the web, it's designed to co-exist, a place where people can share information, without the usual goings-on of the web. It's text plain and simple get over it.

The number of times, I've been asked, can it display images? Can I make a payment "on it" etc, etc, etc.. the list just goes on and on.

So, this log is to make some things clear!

Can I make payments on gemini?

If you're wanting to make payments using gemini, then stop right there. Gemini isn't the place you want to be on.

Can I display media? Can I listen/watch videos and music?

If you're wanting inline images, stop using gemini, or at the very least adapt. Gemini will allow you to view images, using an image viewer of your choice and that's the beauty of gemini, control of how I want to view an image is mine, I don't have to rely on my browser to display the image, or autoplay a video, that I don't want to view, same for all the other things that have become standard on today's modern web.

Can you set up tracking?

You could, I'm not going to go into details of how, since this isn't something I or anyone I know who uses gemini wants to do. My question to that is

Why would you want to?

I don't care how many people have come to view my capsule, this is the whole reason for setting one up, I have the freedom of sharing what I want, when I want and not have to bother with stats that appears to dominate the modern web of today.

Why use gemini?

While I don't want this to turn into an FAQ since the project home page has a really good FAQ. I will answer, simple. Choice, freedom...

The choice to use the internet without the fear of tracking, or that doesn't give me random shit I don't want. When I browse the modern web, I have so many plugins for my browser that it's often more effort than it's worth! I just want to find the information I'm looking for and nothing else.

I have the freedom to share what I want, without having to worry about how I'm going to get X users to read it. I don't even own an HTML website anymore, the closest thing to having a website I own now is this, this capsule.

Gemini is a wonderful place to find information, without the ads, the tracking the random media that's started to play when I don't care for it. I find it, I consume it, I learn it.

What more do you need?

You have to make the choice, do you want to browse content that gets straight to the point? Or do you want the bells and whistles of today's modern web?
