Howdy Y'all

Distro hopping has finally ended!

I just wanted to let you guys know that I have finally found a distro that I like and that I'm sticking with. I have been using it for a little over a year now and don't anticipate leaving. And that distro is Void Linux!

Why Void over (Arch, Ubuntu, Manjaro)?

1.) runit

I have really enjoyed runit over systemd because I feel like I have more control over services and I can easily configure them how I want. I never really got into systemd when I used arch or even ubuntu, but runit is simple to use and easy to learn.

Not only that, but the boot time using runit is so quick :)

2.) base install

Void linux offers a base system installation (along with installs that come with a DE by default). This was a major draw to me as I was looking for a system that I could build from the ground up. Not only does it have a base install, but it is very simple. The void documentation gives you every thing you need to install it. It's basically like doing an Arch install, just slightly different.

Another thing to add is that on the base image, you don't NEED to do a chroot type installation, you can just run the command 'void-installer' and use their ncurses installation menu and it'll work just the same.

3.) xbps-src

I was worried when coming over to void that I wasn't going to have the AUR like on arch and arch-based distros. However, void has great package repos and I have never been left out to dry. They also have a nice tool called xbps-src that allows you to build packages from source that might not be in the main repos.
