I think it was in between 8th and 9th grade I attended a "science for fun" type summer class at Winter Park High School with a couple friends from school. This would have been around 1972. In the library there I scanned the shelves and came across a book with the scientific and intriguing title of "Fahrenheit 451". Another book I read from that time was written for boys and it was a short fiction about a junk pitcher. The junk pitcher didn't throw the fastest fast ball, and he wasn't a starter or first in the thoughts of the crowd or his team mates. But in a pinch, his skills and his view of his place on the team shown forth. And he could feel satisfaction in saving a game and getting recognized while the spotlight of glory recedes and moves back to the greater lights of the game.
