June 2020's purchases

I bought this month's three albums yesterday, on the day that Bandcamp waived their usual artist's fees so that 100% of each album's price went straight to the artists. Many artists in turn chose to pass this extra money on to groups working to fight racism, including Holodeck Records, which was great to see.

Man, was it ever hard to choose only three albums to buy this month! I did some pretty expansive sampling toward the end of last month, some of it squarely in the spacerock/krautrock genre and some of it branching out into adjacent genres, with a lot of psychedelic and drone influence. I could easily have bought six albums, but I want to do this "slow and steady" style, so I limited myself to the following:

"Sungod", by Sundog

"Threshold" by Dhidalah

"Lost Ethnography of the Miscanthus Ocean" by Scattered Purgatory

I look forward to reviewing these later this month!

If you missed this week's artist fee waiver day, Bandcamp will be doing it one last time (as part of their effort to help artists impacted by the pandemic, anyway) next month on July 3rd. Also, on June 19th Bandcamp will pass all the money they get from artist fees on to NAACP Legal Defense Fund. I might buy another Sungod album or two on that day - in part to support a worthy cause, but also because I'm pretty sure that I want to eventually buy everything Sungod have released, and if I use one of my "official three" albums for that each month it will limit my ability to explore other artists and also make for boring reviews.
