What's new

It finally happens, that my schooltime is approaching end. For that reason there was no updates this month - I was prepairing for my exams. Now, when there's only one left and everything's approaching the end I start thinking about my holiday plans. As always there are overambitious, but probably for tge first time I'm aware of that.

Seems that just releasing that one page was just too much for me to do in June, so it's out in August instead. Sorry.

SuperTux

I suspended SuperTux development for the longest time yet. During my first semester I was able to contribute alongside my studies, with significant impact on the game, including but not limited to first swimming prototype. During second semester I realized I might not be able to do this anymore, due to increase in difficulty in my subjects. Every summer holiday I try to get back to it, but with mixed success.

This time I hope to finally add rotating hitboxes, to enable smoother swimming experience and (finally) sliding.

Raspberry pi home server

Now for the fun part.

Part of the reason, why I created an account here is because of the free gemini hosting I get. It's quite good, until you want to publish some private (cert restricted) stuff. Also, to be honest living in full headless mode is tiring. I'm not able to use all my favourite keyboard shortcuts with nano, can't navigate through documents quickly, etc. Ideally I'd like to install VSCode server on a system that serves my gemini, and remote there from my computer. That's not saying that I'll stop hosting here, but I also don't say I'll continue publishing.

The other reason I was considering to buy a Raspberry pi is my poor router provided by Orange. It's quite a new hardware offering from them, yet they managed to pack it with features as old as SMB 1. I can plug a disk drive to the only USB 2.0 port and get highly unreliable NAS. To finish with that I decided to set up SMB 2.0 NAS on a Raspberry Pi.

Aside from that I consider setting other things for testing: server sides of my own application projects, IPFS node for filecoin mining, a webpage and possibly a home VPN. Softwarewise, possibilities are limitless with just one computer running 24/7.

Old laptop's fate

My old laptop officialy died a while ago. I disassembled it into parts and now want to do best as I can with each of them:

Keyboard is really light without a laptop attached to it and it's my favourite layout of those I've seen in a laptop. I'm going to buy a Teensy dev board, 3D-print a case for it and make it a USB keyboard for my new device.
Screen matrix, or more precisely the entire lid (I removed only the microphone module, everything else would require dealing with glues) will eventualy meet the fate of being my second monitor. I've found a video on YouTube explaining how to do this transformation, but it says to crack the screen frame open to see the details of matrix producer and capture primary video bus. For me it's more complicated, as I'd like to keep things clean, but with that I get to deal with multipurpose 40-pin strip, that caries screen signal, camera feed, multitouch data, and microphone data. I'm not even sure if there is a standarisation for these, and if I can find a transcoder out there that can process HDMI signal for this screen.
SSD is going to be donated to my NAS. I'm still thinking on a filesystem and type of content I should put there, but that's a low priority concern right now.
Casing is probably going to be scraped, as it doesn't really serve any purpose, even as a spare part, unless I find a way to cut it to fit my new keyboard, but that's unlikely.
All the other parts, includig touchpad, baterries (yes I have two, I bought a spare battery back in the days), and motherboard with all their contents I'm hoping to sell for spare parts for hardware services. I have yet to look, where can I sell it and how.
