What does everyone think of the ideas in IndieWeb and the semantic web?

I see little discussion of them these days

What I think of the IndieWeb: Love it!

They get criticized for being "elitist" for expecting everyone to write HTML, for not creating good WYSIWYG tools. I find those making those criticisms have no idea how elitist *they're* being. That said I'm interested in filling that hole, if I can get help from a multilingual dev who can help ensure my software's behavior isn't euro-centric...

What I think of the Semantic Web: Could be very handy!

The role I see it filling is to aid gathering of richer search databases (like Google's doing for their "infoboxes"), though it can't entirely automate the process. Nothing can. You'd still need librarians to cleanup the aggregated data.

When it comes to SoLiD, I think it's solving a non-problem. We can already find people to host our documents or webservices and look how the web turned out! What makes us think those hosting our queryable triples will be any more trustworthy?
