Use this thread to introduce yourself!
I'm Alex, I'm a software engineer at [BIG TECH] and I've always been
interested in indie/punk/diy culture -- the "small web" to me means
bringing that ethos to technology and the internet. I run
flounder.online, a gemini site builder, and work on a number of projects
related to "small technology" in general, available at
https://git.alexwennerberg.com/
Who are you, and what interests you about the "small web"?
Alex

Hi!
I'm Devine, I live and work on a small sailboat while developing little
applications and art toys, for a tiny forth-like virtual machine. I love
applied low-tech ideas, and I love Alex's works.
I have a digital garden which is built according to some of the tenets of
the small web, the site itself is built by that same 32 instructions
virtual machine and is compatible with Netsurf and Mothra(most of it, not
the SVG graphics, sadly).

I run a tiny webring of small web creators, and am looking forward to
participate to this mailing list and community!

Hi all,
My name is Sam and I've previously worked in big tech for the past 8
years or so. I'm now trying to find something else to do or start
freelancing; it's not going well, but I enjoy my life a lot more these
days so that's something.
I'm a big proponent of small technology as well as cooperative
technology. I believe in open source, but also open protocols developed
collaboratively (not just by one person making big decisions).
As mentioned in another thread, I'm currently trying to help start a
cooperative code forge, and I also maintain an XMPP library and set of
tools that I hope will one day be cooperative in nature as well (though
for now it's mostly just me, unfortunately).
I'm looking forward to the discussions on this list, and finding more
small technology.
—Sam

Hello! o/
I’m Jake, a hobbyist sysadmin and recreational programmer. I love simple and sustainable technologies, tea, writing, and gardening. I’m big fan of the small internet and low-tech or analog solutions.
I have a website over at https://www.paritybit.ca—which I have grown and developed with the principles of the small internet in mind—as well as a personal wiki/knowledgebase over at gemini://wiki.paritybit.ca (WIP).
I’m looking forward to participating in this community, thanks for making this mailing list!

Hi!
My name is Adrian Cochrane, and I build my own independent browser engines (in Haskell) for unusual mediums!
So far I'm finishing off an auditory browser engine "Rhapsode" building upon eSpeak NG, Voice2JSON, & my own CSS engine. And I've implemented a webpage debugger bug-compatible with it, which you can interact with via Selenium or, in an interface resembling WebInspector & elementary OS, any web browser. Now I'm ready to start tackling a visual browser engine, which I'll target towards TVs & eReaders.
None support JavaScript for several reasons, though so far I am managing to support *most* of HTML/CSS without too much work. Not that I agree with all of HTML/CSS...
Here's Rhapsode's website: https;//rhapsode.adrian.geek.nz/ You may be interested in the blog!

Hello all!
I'm m15o, I spend most of my days working at a hyper growth company,
and my free time having fun on small projects. I love the slowness and
simplicity of the small net, the fact that it's motivated by passion
rather than something else.

Hi, I'm Chris!
Unsurprisingly, I too am a software developer (typically working at web-based SaaS companies) and I have been spending more time recently trying to explore more of the small internet and try to find new communities to engage with. I simply feel that social media has become too massive and homogenous for me to healthily engage with, and it's been really refreshing finding new corners of the internet and getting exposed to a bunch of new ideas in the process.
As someone who grew up on forums I've never really used a mailing list before, but this seems like a cool halfway because the threaded format feels instantly more familiar. So thanks for building this out!
I do have a personal website but right now I'm most interested in building out a wiki component, inspired by many others I've found recently. It's still very early - not even styled at all - but to help me focus on sharing ideas I think it's fun to have it live from the get-go and let it evolve over time. You can check it out at https://chrislewis.dev/wiki/
Thanks!
Chris
