The morning walk was cool this morning, there's a definitely feel of autumn in the air as we made a brisk lap of the local park. A few magpies[1] calling up in the trees, but overall it was the endless shrieking of the Rainbow lorikeets[2] that drew our attention. Every gum tree seemed to have some, anywhere from two to a dozen, yelling, squabbling, stripping the flowers from the stems as they eat the nectar, then shooting across from one tree to another. At one point one shot in over a back fence and passed my face like a green missile, I'd hate to think what would happen if it hit me, but presumably they're well practiced and don't hit slow moving people too often!
