More time in the garden, another day at home, I'll give the caterpillars a break today — although I did check on them all, you'll have to see yesterday's note to read about them. Cooler overcast weather and was going to have lunch inside, but decided at the last minute to take it outside and sit on the front porch and get a ringside seat to today's David Attenborough moment.
There on the front wall of the house about chest level to where I was sitting were two little jumping spiders[1] busily engaged in a dance. At least I think they were dancing, looked like spiders doing the careful ritual hopping around each other, each with one middle pair of legs stuck straight out in the air and their abdomens raised high, curving up. The fractionally larger, presumably female, was a darker shade, almost black, the other a dark grey. Spent about four or five minutes watching them roam up and down along the wall, circling around each other with about 2mm separation, then took my eyes off them for too long while I ate my toastie and when I looked back I couldn't find them
