Sleeping in the yard under a tarp Eva ungraciously whacked me awake at around 4am "There's something hovering over Huonville!".
I woke up and blinked in the general direction of her outstretched arm. It looked like a bright star directly over the nearby town... "But it keeps moving around!".
I stared at it for a while... hmm did it just move to the left?
"Moved to the left?"
"Yep!"
"Now the right?"
"Yep!"
"ooooh!"
"Is it just the tarp moving in the breeze, playing tricks?"
"Probably, better get the telescope out"
I got up and pulled the 10" Dobsonian out of the nearby shed. My nephew Atlas called out from inside his tent.
"What's going on out there"
"We've got a UFO"
~ Much commotion from the tent ~
Despite our agreement that it appeared to be moving, through the telescope it showed to be static against the backdrop of other stars.
Probably the heat rising from the towns woodfires was causing the atmosphere to waiver.
Still an exciting reason to wake everybody up at 4am.
We put a pot of coffee on and lit the campfire, Atlas now out of his tent and talking about cooking hot potato chips for breakfast.
Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars were all rising in the east and we cast the dobsonian over them one by one as the creeping daylight gradually extinguished our stars.
