I've been on vacation for 6 days now, and I still haven't finished the next scene to Hybrid Shadows. The truth is, the scene is written, and almost ready to go, but I keep staring at it, and asking "What needs to change?"
There is going to be some romance in Hybrid Shadows, including some more vivid scenes. But I really feel those type of scenes need to be written correctly. I mean, I guess it depends on the audience, and a good love scene can enhance the story. But... this is probably a personal preference. I really don't like things going too far, or in too much detail.
Comparing books to movies, I think I prefer the romance in, say, the Lord of the Rings (yes, I know, that is movie material, not in the books), then to say, the "in your face" stuff from Game of Thrones.
And that's what I'm staring at right now, how to do scenes tastefully.
So you have an idea what I've been working on.
I have the feeling the scene I'm finishing up now is going to shrink down, probably by half. I'll probably put the current text to the side in its current form, to address it again later. This is just the first draft after all.
I have another scene that follows, close to ready, which is communication between Captain Leonard McKnight and a yet to be introduced character, that is going to grow. I feel the character being introduced is pretty cool, and will make the story more interesting, giving it more dimensions.
Anyways... I've dawdled long enough on finishing these things. I don't want my vacation to be over and have nothing to show for it!
My goal, hopefully, is to have two to three more scenes ready and posted before I have to go back to work next week.
Here's to hoping my goals work out.
