2021/1118/1300 — injured

Finally a warm day, at least to start with. But then by lunch time it was overcast and windy so I only went outside after eating my sandwich, for a walk around the garden and to see what I could see.

There was a Pied currawong[1] in our plum tree above the garage roof, it flew up onto the fence as I approached and sat watching me, then flew off as I got another few steps closer. A distinctive individual this one, Jo has seen it around the streets nearby a few times. About a a third to a half of both top and bottom beak are missing, whether from injury or accident I don't know. It doesn't seem too badly affected and looks healthy enough otherwise, they're intelligent birds so I guess its taught itself how to feed and clean with what's left.
