It rained fairly heavily overnight so this morning on my walk up to the park and back everything was wet and glistening, and the path was covered in snails — about 50/50 ones that were on their way back to shelter, and the others, crushed, that hadn't made it across the concrete. A couple of the big gum trees are flowering and from high up in the branches we could hear Rainbow lorikeets[1] shriek to each other as they fed. Noisy miners[2] too, also feeding on the flowers but mostly lower down. A magpie[3] quietly warbled from its perch on an exposed high branch, and in the near distance a few Little ravens[4] were calling to each other. Getting back home the Red wattlebirds[5] were kicking up a cacophany in the callistemon, bouncing around feeding, and a single distant Pied currawong[6] called from a tree-top somewhere.
