2021/0616/1700 — winter

Out on my daily ride for a loop around to do a delivery and enjoy myself, past the Huntingdale wetlands in the late afternoon with grey skies looming low. Currawongs[1] calling from the trees, but none visible. The usual suspects splashing around, waterfowl in the ponds; Coot[2], Moorhen[3], Swamphen[4] and some Black ducks[5]. Noisy miners[6] doing what the name suggests in the bushes besides the path, and Rainbow lorikeets[7] shrieking overhead. It was a day with a few cockatoos too; there'd been a solitary raucous Sulphur-crested cockie[8] in Oakleigh as I was leaving, and a few Corellas[9] near Mount Waverley -- I hadn't seen any of them for a while -- then later on a pair of Galahs[10] in the grass besides the path. One last observation stuck in my head, just after crossing under Warrigal road on the Gardiners creek path, at the spot where I always seem to find the Crested pigeons[11], there they were, quite a big flock today, at least 30 or so.
